Trailside Galleries is pleased to announce Birds Within Other Worlds, a show of all new works by the Oregon based painter Jhenna Quinn Lewis who is acclaimed for her avian and still-life subjects. All works will be sold by draw on September 15, 2018.
Lewis’ meditative and detailed compositions blend realism and the tenets of Japanese wabi sabi with a sense of light like the old masters. For Lewis, art has been the driving force in her life and her great love since childhood. From her earliest memories she has had an inherent fascination to express what she saw in nature and to translate it through her medium, starting first with drawing and photography in her youth, then with oils.
Of her newest works she notes, “This show honors the love I hold for books: my treasured memories of being curled up with a favorite story, the inspiring illustrations and gorgeously crafted bindings that would help bring the words to life, and meaningful inscriptions I’ve discovered by chance on the front pages of second-hand volumes.”
At 43 years old, Lewis began painting full time. For two decades her paintings of fruit and avian subjects have grown in popularity and recognition by collectors and art enthusiasts, with pieces in corporate, individual, and museum collections across the country. In her work, attention is paid to the smallest details and is balanced with her adherence to austerity and atmosphere. “By removing all that is unnecessary in my compositions and exercising restraint and simplicity, I invite the viewer to slow down. Be patient and look. Pay attention to all the necessary details.”
The show will for will be on exhibit from September 10 – 30 and an artist reception will be held at the gallery on Saturday, September 15 from 4:00 -7:00 pm.
