Trailside Galleries is pleased to present “A WESTERN CONVERGENCE” a major show of new works featuring five of the country’s leading western artists; Bill Anton, Logan Maxwell Hagege, Z.S. Liang, Jim C. Norton and Tim Solliday.  For this important event, which is sure to elicit high collector interest, the artists have created a new body of work consisting of five paintings each.  The show will be on exhibit from August 1-30 and an Open House is scheduled for Thursday, August 20 from 5:00 -7:00 PM.  All show paintings will be sold via a fixed price draw at 6:30 PM MST during the Open House.

Bill Anton is arguably one of the most dynamic and collected artists in the field of western art today, nationally recognized for his impressionistic paintings that chronicle the life and times of the contemporary working cowboy. Inspired by the majestic landscapes, wilderness areas and working ranches close to his Arizona studio, Bill paints with a directness of purpose tempered by rich colors and soft edged brushwork.

Just in his early 30’s, Logan Maxwell Hagege has clearly caught the attention of a broad spectrum of collectors, from the more contemporary minded art buyer to the traditional western art collector.  While his work echoes the Taos Society of Artists, Maynard Dixon, Georgia O’Keefe and other modernists, there is no question that he is forging his own path and creating thought provoking works that are very much his own unique style. His paintings of the American Southwest comes to life in a series of angular images that capture the spare beauty of an arid landscape and of an ancient and enduring Native American culture shaped by the extremes of its environment.

Z.S. Liang’s rich and compelling paintings of Native American culture and tradition clearly resonate with collectors who find depth and quality in his storytelling narratives. His penchant for detail combined with the historical and narrative elements of his paintings have firmly established him among the ranks of the finest western representational painters in the country today. With each painting, whether a complex, historical subject matter with multiple figures or a simple, elegant portrait, his meticulous research and dedication is clearly evident, giving his work passion and authenticity.

Jim C. Norton, long-standing member of the Cowboy Artists of America, is world renowned for his renditions of western art and depictions of historical and modern life in the west.  His painterly use of color brings life to the stunning vistas portrayed within his art. Jim particularly loves to express his personal experiences living and traveling through the west working with cowboys and Native Americans.

Tim Solliday became enamored with the West and its mythology at an early age. He was inspired to paint by his artist father and at age 14, began studying with early California Impressionist, Theodore N. Lukits (1897-1992). Under his tutelage, Solliday honed his exceptional skills and solidified his goal of capturing beauty on canvas in the plein-air style. While many masters influenced his work, including John Singer Sargent, Vincent Van Gogh, Ernest Blumenschein and the early California Impressionists, it was Frank Tenney Johnson (1849-1916) who influenced him most directly; so much so, that he sought out his old studio in the foothills north of Pasadena and painted there for five years.  Today, Solliday’s work is a unique combination of the historic and the contemporary; his western landscapes and figures imbued with vibrant color and bold, dramatic brushstrokes that add a feeling of movement in his works.

Since 1963, Trailside Galleries of Jackson, Wyoming and Scottsdale, Arizona has been regarded as one of the pre-eminent dealers in American representational art, specializing in a rich and varied collection of works by the leading western, wildlife, figurative, impressionist, and landscape artists in the country. The artist roster includes members of the Cowboy Artists of America, National Academy of Design, Oil Painters of America, Plein-Air Painters of America, Prix De West, Society of Animal Artists, National Sculpture Society and Masters of the American West.
