Press release

Jackson, WY…. Trailside Galleries is pleased to present a special showcase of new works by acclaimed Montana wildlife painter Adam Smith. The show will be on exhibit at the gallery during the month of September and the artist will be present to meet with collectors during a reception at the gallery on Saturday, September 17 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.

This latest grouping by the 32 year-old will include both North American big game animals as well as a selection of African subjects.  Due to the limited number of available paintings and high collector demand, all works will be sold by a fixed price draw during the reception.

Although he has had no formal training, Smith says he has benefited from the mentorship of one of country’s foremost wildlife artists, his father, Daniel Smith. As a young boy, Smith recalls family trips that were often centered on nature, whether hiking in Glacier National Park or mountain biking along the coast of Molokai, Hawaii.  Today, his home in Montana, nestled in the woods at the base of a mountain, offers a source of constant inspiration with frequent visits from elk, moose, deer, mountain lions and bears.

An enthusiastic traveler and explorer, Smith says the best part of his profession is going out and gathering reference material. Research trips have taken him to Utah, Alaska, Africa and countless national parks in his quest to realistically capture his subjects in their natural habitat.

Of his newest collection of work for his show at Trailside Galleries, he notes, “It can be a daunting task painting for a large show.  Coming up with a variety of ideas and subjects that compliment each other can be difficult.  On the other hand, it has been a very rewarding experience.  Many paintings in this showcase I have wanted to paint for awhile and I am glad I finally have the opportunity.  From intimate settings to wide open spaces I wanted to share my vision of wildlife in all their realms.   I'm not a prolific painter so it is quite rare that I have a large group of paintings hanging together.  I am really looking forward to the show and sharing my passion for wildlife.”
