Press release

Trailside Galleries is pleased to announce Kathy Wipfler: Pure Landscape-A Western Journey. This event features landscapes inspired by Wipfler’s recent painting trips across six western states; Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming. Collectors can meet the artist during a  reception at the gallery on Thursday, July 11 from 4:00-6:00 pm.

Born and raised in California, Kathy Wipfler has called Jackson, Wyoming home since 1978.  Drawn to the open spaces and spectacular scenery of the region, Wipfler finds beauty not only in the landscapes, but also in such scenes as cattle drives and harvesting hay, activities she has experienced first hand while living on a working ranch for over 20 years.  Her canvas is often infused with a wide variety of subjects including landscapes, wildlife, domestic animals coastal scenes and rural rich life.

Her  excellent ability to capture a sense of place consistently provides the viewer with an attachment to that particular scene.  She notes, “Being a lifelong resident of the American West and an avid reader of western history, I have an affinity for the land, the wildlife and the ways that people have trod this land for thousands of years.”  She adds, “My history readings are primarily first person accounts and archeological findings, which I find very informative as I paint the landscape and lifestyle of the region. I spend as much time as possible in the landscape and with the people who know the history of each area. By doing so I develop great reverence for the land, which I constantly refer to while creating my work.

Wipfler credits much of her inspiration to fellows artists and mentors Bill Reese, Ned Jacob, Skip Whitcomb, Hollis Williford and Greg McCHuron among others.  Her works are in various private and public collections including the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming.

Western Adventures

Kathy Wipfler’s new body of work is all about the Western landscape. “As a lifetime Westerner and 39-year resident of western Wyoming, I have lived in and observed the geology, weather, wildlife and working people of the West, working with many people involved with agriculture and wildlife. I have spent those 39 years painting the landscape and the animals from life,” says Wipfler. Her upcoming exhibition Kathy Wipfler: Pure Landscape: A Western Journey takes collectors through the adventures of her recent painting trips to Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming.

The show will be held at Trailside Galleries in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, from July 1 to 13, with a reception on Saturday July 11 from 4 to 6 p.m., in which collectors can meet with the artist.
