Trailside Galleries is pleased to announce One With The Sky, a showcase of new works by Los Angeles based artist Mark Maggiori. The show opens on September 9 and continues through September 21. A reception will be held at the gallery on Saturday, September 14 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. Due to high collector demand, all works will be sold by fixed price draw or silent bid.
Born in France, Mark Maggiori acquired oil painting skills through diligent observation at the Académie Julian in Paris. After graduating in 2000, Disney Studios recruited Maggiori with a prestigious Art Director position in Los Angeles, CA. A chance meeting with his future wife, Petecia Lefawnhawk, a talented and creative artist living in Los Angeles, changed the course of his life and career. Lefawnhawk introduced Maggiori to the ghost towns of the West, including Chloride, Arizona where she grew up. Once ensconced in the American southwest, he began to apply the techniques and application methods he learned at the Acedemie to Western painting. His background as a music video director provided him with broad storytelling and composition skills which he now uses to create his Western narrative scenes. Executed with a contemporary feel, his paintings often document the lone cowboy, juxtaposed against layers of textured cloud formations.
Of his newest collection of paintings for the show, he says, “One’s ‘head in the clouds’ is the driving theme of this body of work. These paintings attempt to depict a sense of height and grandeur. Gazing towards the horizon until it becomes lost in the infinity of space is a unique sensation when being that high in elevation.” He adds, “Summits, cliffs and edges meld into a dizzying mix until finally succumbing to melting as one with the sky. The cowboy rides his horse with grace and his tall stance in the saddle imparts a fluidity of movement, giving the impression of imminent flight. This is the feeling which I have attempted to convey to the viewer.”
