Trailside Galleries is pleased to present Shawn Cameron in a special showcase of new works that chronicle the Arizona ranching lifestyle.  The show will be featured throughout the month of August.

Cameron is descended from two pioneer families who came in covered wagons from Texas and Virginia driving herds of cattle with them.  They began an Arizona ranching legacy that continues into the seventh generation.  She credits this family heritage along with her own personal experiences for her unique perspective.   A deep appreciation and respect for the true cowboy and the ranching tradition are the elements that inspire her art. Critics have referred to her as “the real thing,” differentiating her work from more romantic, uninformed depictions of western imagery.

Cameron began to draw and paint as a child and as she became more serious about her art, she took classes at the Scottsdale Artists School and The Fechin Institute in Taos, New Mexico.  She credits Arizona artists Bill Owen (1942-2013) and Joe Beeler (1931-2006) as two of her main mentors and also cites Bob “Shoofly” Shufelt as a strong catalyst when she began her career.   Today, her vibrant western paintings are a blend of painterly brushwork and a realistic approach. Reflecting on her newest paintings for the show, Cameron says, "Moments of ranch life etched in my memory are filed fondly away…as the morning hustle of horseback men departing for the day, or the graceful movement of cowboys patiently trailing cattle down a hillside.  I am moved by the skill and integrity of those before me and strive to share them with brush stroke and color on canvas…hopefully enabling others to see what I have had the privilege to know.”

Shawn Cameron was the recipient of the 2015 and 2016 Governor’s Choice Award at the Cowgirl Up Sale and Exhibition held at the Desert Caballeros Museum in Wickenburg, Arizona.
